Ernest Stock Dale
Cpl. Dale was born in 1892. In 1911 he was living with his 56 year old aunt, Jane Dale, in Aston Somerville.
Corporal Dale is buried in Magnaboschi Cemetery in Italy. The date he fell coincides with in the Trentino Offensive, when Austrians attacked in force from Grappa to Canove on the 15th June 1918. The Allied line was penetrated to a depth of about 1,000 but the lost ground was retaken the next day. This was also known as the Battle of Asiago (Battle of the Plateaux) or the in Italian "Battaglia degli Altipiani". Nicknamed by the Austrians "Strafexpedition" ("Punitive expedition").
The Cemetery appears to be in a spectacular location and is difficult to reach in Winter due to snow.
